1) Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
a) Purpose
The purpose of this music video is to entertain. The main plot is fictional and fantasy, which is designed to give the viewer an insight into what the song is about. The video is also a good way of promoting the band, Imagine Dragons. As it is different, quirky and uses cuddly toys as characters, it gives people something to talk about, so the video, song and band are promoted.
b) Form
This product is a music video that has been produced for the Imagine Dragons.
c) Content and Meaning
The video itself starts off with a girl who seems to be delivering a package to a hut, it then cuts to inside the hut where the band are locked away in the basement and up above them is a betting arena where cuddly toys fight each other. This connotes that a dark and eery situation is about to occur. The betters are all males and there is one man sitting in a throne who we presume is the owner of the place. This denotes that fact that it is mostly males that would enjoy this kind of action. He also has a key around his neck which comes into play at the end of the video. There is one cuddly toy who by the looks of it has never been defeated, this winning streak is counted on a blackboard. Each toy he defeats is plunged down a hole in the floor by the owner, these toys then end up in the basement along with the band. As the champ continually defeats more and more other toys, his next opponent is brought into the circle, by the girl at the beginning of the video. She takes off the blanket and reveals another cuddly toy in a cage. He is entered into the fight and to start with is beaten by the undefeated toy, however, he gets up and uses a punch with special powers to knock out the champion toy. Everybody is so shocked by this they all start running out of the hut. Two men however try to capture the winning toy but he exterminates them with his eyes. The owner is so shocked by this he is forced to move away from his throne and holds his hands up. The girl then reappears and removes the key from his neck. He then predictably moves over the hole in the floor and the psycho toy plunges him down into the basement. The girl then unlocks the band from the cell they were in while in the basement and they all run free. The video ends with the owner of the hut locked up in the cell while the other rejected toys sinisterly gather around him.
The meaning of this video in my opinion is to show no matter how unfair some situations may be, there will always be people to come and rescue you from them.
d) Genre
The genre of this music video is Alternative Rock.
e) Audience
The target audience of this music video I would say is females aged between 14 and 25 but could appeal to a wider range of viewers.

The purpose of this video is to give the viewers the experience of what the singer is going through in this time in his life.
b) Form

c) Content and Meaning
This video starts off with the singer of the band, Dan, in an abandoned building which we presume he has been staying in as there is a mattress underneath the windowsill where he is standing. This connotes that he could be using the building as a place to stay. He is looking out of the window intently like he is worried about something or someone. It then cuts to him traveling round the city where he is currently staying. He then enters what looks like a restaurant and attempts to buy a drink, when he goes to pay for it he is greeted by a woman with full black eyeballs. This denotes the thoughts and troubles that Dan could be having in his mind. He immediately runs out of the shop away from her so we assume that these are the people he is running away from. Next he runs past a couple who are kissing, he looks at them but then continues to run away. The camera then pans onto the couple, who we can also see have these black eyeballs. He then runs into a second building, an arcade. He comes across two twin girls playing on a machine, these girls sense his presence, turn around to him and reveal that they too have black eyeballs. Alarmed by this, Dan sprints away from them and towards an emergency exit. Here he fumbles round in a box and finds a pair of keys which he drops in the rush that he's in, he picks up the keys again and runs out of the building. The next scene involves lots of parked cars so we can infer that he has stolen a pair of keys that relate to one of the parked cars. It turns out that he picked the keys for one of the worse cars that were parked but he gets in anyway and drives off, away from the city. Not far into his journey the car decides to stop working so Dan gets very annoyed and start hitting the wheel and the front of it. The scenes then suddenly switch from night to daytime and it looks like he is in a different location and inside the car, which he wasn't before. Dan decides to walk around and explore this new location, the camera shows him walking across various plains in this new place and to finish with he climbs a small peak. We first see him from behind but then he turns round and reveals to us that he too, now has black eyeballs.
The meaning of this video in my opinion is that however hard you may try to run away from your problems, they will always catch up with you if you do nothing about them.
d) Genre
The genre of this song is Indie-Rock.
e) Audience
The audience that this video is targeting in my opinion is females aged between 15 and 25. However it could appeal to either sex but typically this genre of music is more associated with females.
3) X Ambassadors - Renegades
a) Purpose
The purpose of this video is to inspire.
b) Form
This product is a music video that has been that has been produced for the band, X Ambassadors. However, the song was originally written for the commercial of the Jeep Renegade.
c) Content and Meaning
The video starts off with a few stories of disabled athletes, who are still pursuing with their dreams and sports even though the odds were against them to continue. This connotes encouragement and would inspire other people who are in the same situation. We see their individual stories at different times throughout the video and how they perform in their sports. As these stories are being told, the band are playing the song in a living room of a house. As we get towards the end of the song, we find out that the piano player in the band actually has a disability too, he is blind. So the video shows how the other band members support him through their times of playing their instruments at home and at live shows. It shows the band having a great time together and how happy they are to be involved in music. This denotes that they are all supportive and have a great relationship together.
The meaning of this video in my opinion is that no matter what struggles life throws at you, you can always change things for the better by attempting and doing the things that you love.
d) Genre
The genre of this song is Folk-Rock/Alternative-Rock.
e) Audience
In my opinion this music video doesn't have a specified audience. The main purpose is to inspire, it isn't designed to inspire a certain group of people but to inspire everybody that watches it.
4) Passenger - Let Her Go
a) Purpose
The purpose of this video is to show what the singer is like when he is performing.
b) Form
This product is a music video that has been that has been produced for the artist, Passenger.
c) Content and Meaning
There isn't a varied amount of content in this video and there is no structured narrative, the video only consists of Passenger and his crew preparing for and playing a show. To start with they are all practicing for a show in the same venue that they will be performing in later on. It then cuts to them all playing in front of a packed crowd, in the same place where they were rehearsing beforehand. In between this it shows shots of Passenger and the rest of the crew behind the scenes, practicing, laughing, joking and enjoying themselves. This music video connotes what it is like to be in a band and performing on a stage in front of hundreds of people.
I think what the meaning of this video is that this is to show what music should be all about; performing for the crowd, yet enjoying yourself at the same time. This denotes that bands can have fun behind the scenes, even though they may seem serious on stage.
d) Genre
The genre of this song is Folk Rock/Indie Pop.
e) Audience
This video is designed for Passenger's fans, who are normally female and aged between 17 and 28.
5) Jamie Lawson - Wasn't Expecting That
a) Purpose
The purpose of this video is to give an emotional wake up call to people to make sure they live their lives to full and not to hold back on anything they could be doing.
b) Form
This product is a music video that has been that has been produced for the artist, Jamie Lawson.
c) Content and Meaning
The content in this music video starts from the end and works its way back to the start. The story shows the life of a couple who have spent all their lives together. We see the various events that have gone on in their lives, whether that be bad or good. These events denote the fact of life. At the very start of the video we see a tear being wiped away from the mans face when he is old. This connotes that he is upset at what he is seeing or how he is feeling. We then go back through their lives starting from when they were an old couple, to when they met at school. We see what it's been like to live their lives in this three and a half minute video; there are romantic times, stressful times and happy times. The video we would expect to end with an event right at the beginning of their lives, as the video is working backwards, but instead we are shown the woman lying in a hospital bed with the man kissing her as she passes away. This is a very somber end to such an emotional music video.
The meaning of this music video in my opinion is, like the purpose, to not hold back on anything you want to do in life. If you want to do something, then do it, before your time runs out.
d) Genre
The genre of this song is Pop.
e) Audience
The audience that this video is designed for I'd say is females aged between 18 and 26.
